M U S I C & F I L M

Here is a collection of projects I’ve made at heights of inspiration, be it through film, photography, of music. I strive to capture the essence of these few enchanting moments as well as convey the deeper side of human emotion that exists within each. Nothing in this is commissioned work, and more so my attempts in visual arts, design, illustration and photography. My eternal thanks to all those who have given me the will to create these works.

Personal Spotify Playlists

I spend a LOT of time on Spotify--let's just say, in the top 1% of users-- and thusly I love to make "album art" for my playlists to have a little creative break from the daily grind. Here are a few I've made that I really enjoyed putting together. It's little projects like this that I'd look for in my potential hires' resumes and is one of those little things in design work that can help create something for yourself when you're spending most of your days creating for other folks.

Strictly Stetson turned out especially interesting, having the thumbnails generated by MidJourney then photoshopped a bit afterward. I think AI art is a fantastic tool in creating these uncanny scenes that aren't from a set or shots of film extras (almost always locked behind ownership rights or licensing fees) and has yet to show us how efficiently it can be used in the design space.

FLETCHERPILLED is a still from the incredible film 'Whiplash' that I can't recommend enough. I've been meaning to put together a Jazz list for quite some time, and making a satirical piece pointed at the film's antagonist was an obvious choice, sprinkling in some fake award logos to make it feel all the more authentic.

Forest Music and The West are both photos I took myself. The West features an almost untouched film simulation taken from my Fujifilm X-T4 with a 38mm f/1.8 retro Olympus lens, while Forest Music was a hit from an old Nikon D5100, with some work to take on the double exposure style from 'True Detective'.

Cupidcome

Working with musicians has always been a dream of mine, from designing band logos to creating entire album layouts. I strive to translate every aspect of the musicians spirit into the photography and design, especially so from the mellow lighting and long nights with shoegaze band Cupidcome, made up of dear friends I’ve held close for decades.

The focus of details through lyrics, melodies, friendship and emotional insight gives the work a greater purpose; Not to make a sales pitch but to be apart of a moment, a message, or a relationship. I’m happy to have some friends in the scene and try to give back to their efforts in the only way I can, through alternative methods of Art.

FOUNDERS of RUIN

Founded by the graduating class of 2009’s Battle of the Bands winning contestant ‘Crossfire’, my friends in Founders of Ruin of worked diligently to elevate the local metal scene to a new level of excellence, and I’m honored to have been taken up as a frequent collaborator with the band.

Founders takes heavy influence from many post-technological ideas of resource-exhaustion and technology’s impact on the nature of earth and humanity, lending from sci-fi experiences to detail the binary bits, blips, and droning drum machines like circuits running through a silicon board.

I was picked up to do a quick promotional poster for the group to promote their first fleshed out EP, ‘Movement I: Concept’ which lead to one of the band’s most recognizable graphics, now the album art on Spotify and Digipaks: The Crimson Dawn. I was able to contribute to the digipak layout and interior design, following the aesthetic introduced in the original poster of landscapes corrupted by circuit boards, nature fully enraptured by technology juxtaposed by pillars of humanity reaching for their next conquest beyond the clouds and into the stars.

Music: Odds & Ends

Here’s a few more pieces I’ve made that have some form of musical inspiration and design.

Film Inspiration = great excuses to practice fanart

Film has always been a media that I’ve adored, and an artform I wish I had more talent for. There are few things in this world that are able to transcend time, space, emotion and interpretation better than a well made masterpiece of film. Here’s a few designs I’ve put together over the years in honor of some favorites.

Warning: Kubrick is unfairly represented compared to… anything else.
